Outrage and concern are sweeping through the customer base of Fidelity Bank as news spreads of the bank’s N555.8m fine for breaching data privacy.
The fine, imposed by the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC), has left customers feeling vulnerable and questioning the security of their personal information.
“This is a huge betrayal of trust,” said one customer. “I expect my bank to protect my data, not put it at risk.”
Another customer expressed frustration with the bank’s handling of the situation. “How could they be so careless with our data? It’s unacceptable.”
The fine was imposed after an investigation by the NDPC found that Fidelity Bank had violated the National Data Protection Act, 2023, and the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation, 2019. The bank’s lack of cooperation with the investigation further aggravated the situation, leading to the hefty fine.
Customers are now demanding answers and action from the bank. “I want to know what they’re going to do to fix this,” said one in Abule Egba “I want assurances that my data is safe.”
“I’m not sure I can continue banking with them,” said one customer. “Trust has been broken.”
As the news continues to spread, customers are advised to monitor their accounts closely and report any suspicious activity. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of data protection and the need for banks to prioritize customer privacy.
