The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have inaugurated a Joint Technical Committee to address aviation-related matters and improve stakeholder collaboration. The event took place at the NAICOM office in Abuja on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Representing NAICOM’s Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, was Deputy Commissioner Technical, Dr. Usman Jankara, who welcomed the NCAA delegation led by Mrs. Rominiyi F. Dorcas, Deputy General Manager, Financial Health & Aviation Insurance. Dr. Jankara emphasized that NAICOM’s core mandate is to regulate the insurance industry and protect policyholders, countering misconceptions that it prioritizes insurance operators over public interest.

The Joint Technical Committee has been tasked with several responsibilities, including verifying insurance certificates for airline operators, providing technical support to NCAA on insurance matters, and facilitating the resolution of complaints regarding insurance coverage and services. Additionally, the committee will conduct periodic reviews of minimum insurance coverage requirements and organize training programs for stakeholders.

Mrs. Dorcas, leading the NCAA team, pledged her commitment to ensuring the successful execution of the committee’s objectives. She highlighted the importance of collaboration in fostering a secure and sustainable aviation sector.

Concluding the ceremony, Dr. Jankara underscored the need for process automation and flexibility to enhance the committee’s effectiveness. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver due to their expertise and dedication.

In his vote of thanks, Mr. Ajuyah Omeresan Alfred, Assistant Director, Special Risk, reaffirmed NAICOM’s commitment to ensuring the aviation sector remains efficient and effectively insured.
