The Director General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Joseph Tegbe, has emphasized Nigeria’s strategic interest in the evolving global tariff landscape, describing it as a key factor reshaping global trade flows.
Tegbe made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, at the Chinese Embassy in Abuja. The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by the NCSP to deepen bilateral economic cooperation between Nigeria and China.
He shared outcomes from his recent visit to China, where he held high-level discussions with major Chinese firms, including SINOMACH-HE and the China National Electrical Engineering Company (CNEEC). Tegbe urged Chinese companies to establish manufacturing plants in Nigeria and share technical know-how, stressing that Nigeria’s trade agreements present unique advantages as a base for regional production and export across Africa.
The meeting also touched on regulatory and legal frameworks affecting Nigeria-China economic relations. Ambassador Yu reaffirmed China’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with Nigeria, citing growing interest in investing in Nigeria’s agriculture and manufacturing sectors. He noted that China has recently removed or reduced tariffs on key Nigerian exports and is keen to expand imports, referencing a recent memorandum of understanding on shelled peanuts signed during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Both sides also reviewed progress on protocols covering aquatic seafood and soybeans, with Tegbe expressing Nigeria’s commitment to maximizing these export opportunities. He pledged to intensify engagements with relevant ministries and regulatory bodies to fast-track Nigeria’s readiness.
The meeting underscored a shared resolve to strengthen the strategic partnership between Nigeria and China, paving the way for expanded trade and investment opportunities
