The Federal Government has released the second tranche of the outstanding N35,000 wage award arrears to its workers, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed on Thursday.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the OAGF explained that the payment follows an earlier disbursement of one month’s arrears out of the initial five months owed. With the latest payment, three tranches remain to fully clear the backlog.
The OAGF dismissed claims that the government had abandoned the payment, stressing that the wage award arrears will be settled in monthly instalments of N35,000 until completion.
“The Federal Government remains committed to honouring its obligations to workers and will continue to release the payments as scheduled,” the statement read.
The N35,000 wage award was introduced as part of palliative measures to cushion the impact of recent economic reforms on federal employees.
