he new Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr. Raymond Omenka Omachi, has pledged to continue and build on the legacy of his predecessor, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, ensuring that the Ministry remains Nigeria’s premier service delivery institution through transparent, accountable, and efficient management of the nation’s finances in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Abuja on Friday, Mr. Omachi commended Mrs. Jafiya for her 35 years of meritorious service across multiple Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), describing her as a “great leader” who built a committed and capable workforce dedicated to driving the Administration’s reform initiatives
.
“You have built more than a team, a team of committed Directors. All the good things you have been doing, I will follow the foundation you have built. I will build on it,” he said.
Mr. Omachi also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Easther Walson-Jack, and the Honourable Ministers of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun and Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, for the opportunity to serve, pledging to maintain an open-door policy and foster collaboration among staff.
In her farewell remarks, Mrs. Jafiya described the Ministry of Finance as the “engine room of the economy” and emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards to safeguard national stability. She urged staff to support Mr. Omachi, reflecting on her own career across several MDAs before concluding in Finance.
“This Ministry is one of the best professional homes I could have wished for,” she said, commending the Directors, staff, media, and unions for their dedication and teamwork, which she said made every challenge surmountable.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a cake and card by the Ministry’s Directors, who paid glowing tributes to Mrs. Jafiya as a mother, mentor, and leader.
