The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has commended the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Plateau State following the recent killings of innocent residents in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.
The visit, he said, demonstrates responsive leadership, empathy, and national solidarity at a time when the people of Plateau are mourning the painful loss of their loved ones.
President Tinubu was received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the APC National Chairman, former governors, political leaders, traditional and religious leaders, as well as other stakeholders across the state.
Professor Yilwatda strongly condemned the killings, describing them as inhuman, cowardly, and a direct assault on the peace and unity of Plateau State. He stressed that the continued loss of innocent lives is unacceptable and must no longer be met with routine outrage or temporary responses.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC Chairman called for deliberate, coordinated, and result-oriented actions to prevent further attacks.
He urged community leaders to be more vigilant and proactive in identifying and reporting suspicious activities, noting that those responsible for the violence are often known elements operating within or around affected communities.
“These perpetrators must no longer be shielded by silence or fear. They must be identified, exposed, apprehended, and brought to justice,” he said.
Professor Yilwatda also charged security agencies to rethink and strengthen their operational strategies. He emphasized the need to adopt modern, intelligence-driven approaches, including surveillance technologies such as AI-powered cameras, drones, and advanced tracking systems to effectively combat evolving security threats.
He warned that Plateau State cannot continue to endure cycles of violence while perpetrators operate freely.
Highlighting the economic consequences of insecurity, the APC Chairman noted that Plateau’s vast tourism and agricultural potential remains underutilised due to persistent violence.
“No economy can thrive where fear prevails, and no society can prosper where lives are constantly under threat,” he stated.
He called for a collective approach involving traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors, youth groups, women, and security agencies to restore peace and stability across the state.
During the visit, President Tinubu also met with victims and affected families, offering condolences and reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the crisis.
The APC noted that the visit goes beyond symbolism, reflecting the government’s resolve to confront insecurity and ensure lasting peace in Plateau State.
