The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has warned that Nigeria may be forced to reconsider or withdraw from future loan arrangements with the World Bank if persistent delays in approval and disbursement processes are not addressed.
He raised the concern over what he described as prolonged bottlenecks in accessing already approved funds, noting that such delays undermine fiscal planning and the effective execution of government projects.
According to him, slow disbursement timelines reduce the efficiency of externally funded programmes and may discourage the country from relying on such financing if the trend continues.
The Accountant-General stressed that Nigeria remains committed to prudent debt management but expects greater efficiency, predictability, and timeliness in international financing arrangements.
He added that improved coordination between Nigeria and development partners is essential to ensure that funding translates into timely project delivery and measurable economic impact
