Mrs Kareem Ganiat Folashade, the mother of a young man accused of involvement in a same-sex offence may face probation for alleged conspiracy and aiding his son to evade arrest following the death of another suspect linked to the incident.

The incident reportedly occurred on the night of June 7, 2023, when two students of Kwara State University, identified as Kareem Faizal Gbolahan and Adisa Quadri Ayodele, were allegedly caught engaging in homosexual activity.

The development was said to have triggered a mob attack on Adisa Quadri, while Kareem Faizal reportedly escaped from the scene and has remained at large since the incident.

Sources said the attack on Adisa later resulted in severe injuries which eventually led to his death.

Following the incident, members of the Adisa family were said to have continued demanding that Kareem Faizal be produced to face prosecution alongside the late Adisa, insisting that both individuals were involved in the same offence.

Mrs Kareem Ganiat Folashade, mother of Kareem Faizal, was alleged to have repeatedly defended her son and frustrated efforts by both the deceased’s family and security operatives to gain access to the suspect.

It was further gathered that the Nigeria Police Force at Onipan Division, Lagos, confirmed that the Kareem family had earlier reported the matter at the station and promised to present Kareem Faizal for investigation.

However, police sources alleged that despite several assurances, the suspect was not produced, while his mother allegedly continued to provide excuses regarding his whereabouts.

Authorities are now considering probing Mrs Kareem Ganiat Folashade over alleged conspiracy, aiding and abetting, and possible obstruction of justice in connection with the case, as investigations continue.
