Mondelēz International has announced the appointment of Ayman Fahmy as Managing Director for West Africa, a move the global snacking company says is aimed at accelerating growth and strengthening its market leadership across one of its most strategic regions.

The appointment, which took effect from 15 May 2026, places Fahmy in charge of Mondelēz’s operations across West Africa, including oversight of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, the company’s listed Nigerian subsidiary responsible for manufacturing some of its most iconic local brands such as Bournvita, TomTom, Cadbury 3 in 1 Hot Chocolate Drink and Buttermint.

In his new role, Fahmy will lead the company’s regional business strategy, deepen market penetration and strengthen distribution systems across West Africa as Mondelēz seeks to expand its footprint in a highly competitive consumer goods market.

He succeeds in a transition arrangement that sees former interim Managing Director, Folake Ogundipe, return to her substantive role as Financial Director, where she will continue to support the company’s operational and financial performance.

According to Mondelēz International, Fahmy brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across fast-moving consumer goods markets in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, with a track record of driving business transformation and revenue expansion in complex multi-country environments.

Before his appointment, he served as General Manager at Shan Foods, overseeing operations across the Middle East, Levant and Africa region, where he led business expansion initiatives focused on market penetration and distribution growth.

He previously held senior leadership roles at Reckitt Benckiser, where he managed operations across multiple regions including the Gulf Cooperation Council, Levant and Southern and Central Africa. During that period, he was credited with delivering significant growth through route-to-market restructuring, distributor expansion and long-term retail partnerships.

Fahmy also spent part of his career at Procter & Gamble, where he rose to the position of Commercial Vice President for Nigeria, delivering strong double-digit growth before taking on broader regional responsibilities across the Arabian Peninsula and Pakistan.

Mondelēz says his appointment reflects its continued focus on strengthening commercial execution, improving consumer engagement and scaling operations across West Africa’s growing snacking and confectionery market.

President for Sub-Saharan Africa at Mondelēz International, Hisham Ezz El-Arab, described Fahmy as a commercially experienced leader with strong operational depth, noting that his expertise in go-to-market transformation and distribution expansion will be key to advancing the company’s growth ambitions in the region.

He added that the company remains committed to reinforcing its leadership position in key African markets through stronger route-to-market systems, capability development and deeper consumer engagement.

Fahmy, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo, is expected to focus on scaling operations, improving execution efficiency and strengthening Mondelēz’s competitive positioning in West Africa’s evolving consumer landscape.

The statement was issued by Frederick Mordi, Head of Corporate Communications and Government Affairs at Mondelēz International.
