An NYSC member serving in Bayelsa State, Miss Remigius Ruth Chidinma, in collaboration with Omega Foundation, has concluded a sensitisation campaign aimed at educating secondary school students on the dangers of peer pressure and lifestyle addiction across Yenagoa communities.

The initiative, titled “Project Free: Peer Pressure and Lifestyle Addiction Awareness Campaign,” focused on helping students resist negative influences, avoid harmful habits and remain committed to their education and future ambitions.

Speaking after the outreach, Chairman of Omega Foundation, Mr Romanus Chukwuemeka, said the programme was organised in response to growing concerns over the increasing influence of peer pressure among teenagers.

According to him, the campaign featured interactive discussions, motivational talks, one-on-one counselling sessions and educational support materials designed to encourage active participation and understanding among students.

He noted that many students openly discussed personal challenges, sought counselling and expressed renewed determination to stay focused on their goals.

“We had impactful sessions with the students, and many of them shared challenges affecting their lives and academics. Some sought guidance on personal issues, while others were encouraged to remain committed to their dreams and education,” he said.

Romanus stressed the importance of sustained awareness campaigns targeted at young people, noting that continuous sensitisation would help reduce social vices and lifestyle addictions among teenagers.

He also called on individuals, organisations and stakeholders to support initiatives that promote child development and youth empowerment across communities.

“Impact goes beyond a single programme. We must continue supporting and guiding young people so they can make better decisions for their future,” he added.

The foundation also commended Chidinma for her commitment and contribution to the success of the outreach programme.

The campaign was held in six secondary schools across Yenagoa communities, including Citizen of Promise Academy, Azikoro Village; First Baptist Church Model Academy, Ovom; Faith Comprehensive International Secondary School, Okutukutu; Praishal Academy, Etegwe; and Baptist Comprehensive Secondary School, Biogbolo, among others.
