The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has pledged increased political inclusion for women, assuring party leaders that more opportunities will be created for female participation in elective and appointive positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yilwatda made the commitment on Tuesday while receiving the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, alongside zonal and state women leaders at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The APC chairman praised the contributions of women to the party’s growth and electoral successes, describing them as the backbone of the organisation’s activities at all levels.

According to him, women have consistently demonstrated commitment, resilience and leadership capacity during campaigns, elections and other party engagements, making a strong case for greater representation in governance.

He emphasized that women possess the competence and leadership qualities required to excel in public office, stressing that gender should not be a barrier to political advancement.

Yilwatda also pledged to advocate for women’s interests within party and government structures, assuring them of participation in future appointments, campaign councils and leadership positions.

The APC chairman further argued that the principle of federal character should extend beyond geographical considerations to include gender representation, noting that empowering women today would create opportunities for future generations.

Earlier, APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, said the visit was aimed at formally introducing newly elected state women leaders from across the federation.

She commended the national chairman’s leadership style, describing it as inclusive and unifying, while expressing appreciation for efforts aimed at strengthening party structures and expanding membership.

She appealed for adequate representation of women in future campaign councils and requested additional support for the Office of the National Women Leader to enhance its coordination of party programmes across the country.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by party leaders and women stakeholders to deepen women’s participation in politics, strengthen APC structures and promote inclusive governance ahead of future elections.
