BOCA Energy Resources Ltd has joined millions of individuals, institutions and organisations around the world to celebrate young people on International Youth Day 2026, reaffirming its commitment to youth empowerment, innovation, skills development, responsible leadership and sustainable economic growth.
International Youth Day is commemorated annually on August 12 following its designation by the United Nations General Assembly.
The 2026 observance is themed “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” highlighting the shared aspirations of young people across different backgrounds and circumstances, including the desire for dignity, opportunity, inclusion and meaningful participation in shaping their future.
In its message marking the occasion, BOCA Energy Resources Ltd described young people as an indispensable force in shaping the future of businesses, communities, economies and nations.
The company noted that young people are not merely beneficiaries of future opportunities but active contributors to innovation, entrepreneurship, technology, energy transition, social development and economic transformation.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BOCA Energy Resources Ltd, Mr. James Ukachukwu, in a goodwill message to young people around the world, described the youth population as one of the world’s greatest assets and called for greater investment in education, skills development, creativity, entrepreneurship and responsible leadership.
“On this International Youth Day, we celebrate the energy, creativity, resilience and determination of young people across the world. The future does not simply belong to the youth; it is being created by them every day through their ideas, courage and capacity to innovate.”
Ukachukwu stressed that meaningful youth development requires more than celebration, urging governments, businesses, educational institutions and other stakeholders to create practical opportunities that enable young people to acquire relevant skills, build sustainable careers and contribute positively to society.
“We must move beyond speaking about young people as leaders of tomorrow and recognise them as partners in building the world of today. Every young person deserves access to knowledge, opportunity, mentorship and an environment where talent can flourish.”
He further encouraged young Nigerians and their counterparts across the globe to embrace continuous learning, integrity, innovation and perseverance as essential qualities for navigating an increasingly competitive and technology-driven world.
“To every young person, I say: believe in your potential, acquire knowledge, develop your skills and never allow temporary setbacks to define your future. Success is built through discipline, resilience, character and the courage to keep moving forward.”
The BOCA Energy Resources Chairman also emphasised the importance of responsible corporate participation in youth development, noting that businesses have a significant role to play in creating pathways for skills acquisition, employment, entrepreneurship and professional growth.
According to him, empowering young people is ultimately an investment in stronger communities, more resilient economies and a more sustainable future.The United Nations continues to recognise young people as essential partners in sustainable development, with meaningful youth participation linked to innovation, inclusive governance and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. At the 2026 ECOSOC Youth Forum, the UN also stressed the importance of ensuring that youth engagement is sustained and translated into concrete policy outcomes.
