The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, wanted over an alleged case involving the receipt of stolen property.
The anti-graft agency announced the development on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in a public notice signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
The EFCC urged anyone with information about Maina’s whereabouts to contact its offices, the nearest police station or other law-enforcement agencies.
The declaration follows Maina’s failure to appear in court in an ongoing criminal case. Reports indicate that his repeated absence has disrupted proceedings, with the court previously warning that his bail could be revoked.
Maina is facing a separate nine-count case alongside civil servant Ann Igwe Olachi involving an alleged receipt of about N738 million in stolen funds. Both defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were filed in 2019.
The latest development comes against the backdrop of Maina’s previous conviction. In 2021, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him of money laundering involving more than N2 billion in pension funds and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in 2023. He was released in February 2025 after serving part of his sentence.
The EFCC’s latest wanted notice puts renewed focus on Maina’s pending legal proceedings and his whereabouts as the commission seeks to bring him before the court.
