Chief Odulaja Alaba, born on August 25, 1959, and a prominent philanthropist and grassroots politician from Ijebuland, Ogun State, has over the years built a reputation for community service, philanthropy and development-oriented initiatives.
According to findings by our correspondent, Odulaja’s longstanding relationship with the people of his community, coupled with what supporters described as his open-door approach and commitment to giving back to society, played a significant role in his decision to seek elective office.
His community service record and political activities reportedly endeared him to many residents, who subsequently supported his aspiration to represent the Ijebu East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives during the 2023 General Election.
As the political atmosphere gathered momentum, two of his children, Murasat Odulaja and Biodun Odulaja, were among family members and supporters who stood firmly behind him during the campaign. They reportedly joined other members of his political team and supporters in mobilising grassroots backing for his candidacy.
The campaign officially commenced on September 28, 2022, in line with the electoral timetable, while the election was eventually held on February 25, 2023.
At the heart of Odulaja’s political agenda, according to sources close to the campaign, was a development blueprint focused on improving the welfare and living conditions of the people of Ijebu East.
One of the major pillars of his manifesto was the proposed overhaul of the health sector, particularly the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing facilities at the Federal Medical Centre serving Ijebuland, which supporters said had suffered years of infrastructural deterioration.
His agenda also reportedly placed considerable emphasis on road infrastructure and other critical public facilities, with the aim of improving connectivity and stimulating economic activities across the constituency.
Education was another major component of the proposed programme, with plans centred on providing educational assistance and supporting initiatives capable of improving access to quality education for young people within the constituency.
For the teeming youths, Odulaja’s manifesto reportedly included employment opportunities, skills development and empowerment programmes, designed to enable young people to become economically productive and less dependent on others.
To his supporters, the 2023 political journey was therefore not merely about occupying a legislative seat, but about translating years of grassroots engagement and philanthropy into a broader platform for community development.
For a man whose political identity was built around the people and the communities he had served, the campaign became another chapter in his stated commitment to public service and the pursuit of a better future for the people of Ijebu land
