The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, proudly announces its active participation in the global campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) during the 16 Days Activism, running from November 25th to December 10th.
Under the theme “Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now!”, NAWOJ Lagos, as a woman-oriented association, is dedicated to amplifying the voices of survivors, advocating for policy changes, and fostering collaboration with stakeholders to eradicate all forms of gender-based violence.
During the 16 days, NAWOJ Lagos will organize targeted media campaigns designed to engage the public, government bodies, and civil society organizations.
Recognizing the prevailing concern of Gender-Based Violence in our society, NAWOJ Lagos stands resolute in its call for urgent action to protect and support victims while holding perpetrators accountable.
In a statement released by the association, Dr. Adeola Ekine, Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos, urged the government to enforce existing laws and implement policies that safeguard the rights of women and girls. This includes the creation of safe spaces where survivors can seek justice without fear of stigmatization.
Dr. Ekine emphasized the vital role of the media in shaping perceptions and influencing societal change. “Through responsible reporting, the media can raise awareness, educate the public, and challenge harmful stereotypes perpetuating gender-based violence,” she noted.
NAWOJ Lagos pledges to leverage its platform to amplify the voices of survivors and advocate for a violence-free society.
As the world observes the 16 Days Activism, NAWOJ Lagos urges every individual to stand in solidarity and take action against Gender-Based Violence. “Let us unite to create a world where women and girls can live free from all forms of violence and discrimination.
Together, we can build a society that respects and upholds the rights and dignity of every individual,” she said.
NAWOJ Lagos extends appreciation for the support and solidarity of all stakeholders in this pivotal campaign.
