The Association of Travel and Tourism Writers of Nigeria (ATTWON) has refuted claims by the Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Tourism (ANJET) that it is the only registered association for travel and tourism writers in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by Annabel Kufre, PRO of ATTWON, the association clarified that it is the first and only registered association of travel and tourism writers, including journalists, photographers, editors, and tourism professionals, dedicated to the development of the industry.
ATTWON, registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2016, has been promoting responsible journalism, domestic tourism, and supporting members in the industry.
The association has called out ANJET for its misleading publication and attempts to monopolize the industry, emphasizing that there are other independent travel and tourism journalists and writers who contribute to the sector’s growth.
The statement highlighted ATTWON’s commitment to upholding industry standards and fostering professional excellence, contrary to ANJET’s claims. ATTWON has also organized various programs and initiatives, such as the “ATTWON OPEN HOUSE” and “ATTWON TOURISM PARLIAMENT”, which have brought together major stakeholders to discuss industry issues.
The association questioned ANJET’s motives, asking why they are suddenly jittery about ATTWON’s strides and future exploits in the sector. ATTWON emphasized its dedication to promoting the industry and supporting its members, urging stakeholders to disregard ANJET’s misleading claims.
This development comes after ANJET’s attempt to disrupt a training program organized by the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), which ATTWON members attended. ANJET’s actions were seen as an attempt to arm-twist industry leaders and stifle growth in the sector.
