In a significant move to enhance road safety in Lagos, the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Lagos Chapter and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos State Sector Command have strengthened their partnership.

This collaboration aims to raise awareness about road safety, promote responsible driving practices, and reduce road traffic crashes in Nigeria.

Led by Chairperson Dr. Adeola Ekine, NAWOJ committed its resources to support FRSC’s operational activities during a recent visit to the Lagos State Sector Command. Corps Commander Patrick D. Davou was decorated as an Ambassador, acknowledging NAWOJ’s contributions to road safety awareness. Davou emphasized the crucial role of media inclusion in public safety campaigns, and this partnership marks a significant step towards improving road safety in Nigeria.
Dr. Adeola Ekine, Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos Chapter, delivered a speech during the visit, highlighting the importance of road safety and the role of the media in promoting it. She said:
“We are honored to partner with FRSC to promote road safety awareness in Lagos. As journalists, we recognize the impact of our reporting on public opinion and behavior. We commit to using our platforms to educate the public on safe driving practices, the importance of wearing seat belts, and the dangers of reckless driving.

We also acknowledge the efforts of FRSC in reducing road traffic crashes and promoting road safety in Nigeria. We will work together to amplify your message and reach a wider audience.
Let us work together to create a safer and more informed community. Let us use our collective strength to promote road safety and reduce accidents on our roads.

  • The collaboration between NAWOJ and FRSC will leverage the media’s influence to promote road safety, raise awareness, and educate the public on safe driving practices. FRSC has been actively seeking partnerships to improve road safety, working with stakeholders like the Global Road Safety Partnership to develop strategies for improvement. This partnership with NAWOJ is a positive step towards reducing road traffic crashes and promoting a safe motoring environment in Nigeria.

With the media’s support, FRSC can reach a wider audience and promote road safety awareness more effectively. This partnership will also explore opportunities for collaboration on critical issues such as child safety in vehicles, proper use of seat belts, and road safety education for school children. The visit marked the beginning of a lasting partnership between NAWOJ Lagos and FRSC Lagos Sector Command, working together towards a safer, healthier, and more informed Lagos.
