Tragedy struck on Thursday, October 10, 2024, when armed robbers attacked several vehicles on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, leaving 10 people dead and scores injured. Among the victims was an American citizen, Andrea Pendergraft, who narrowly escaped death in the almost one-hour operation.
According to eyewitnesses, the robbers attacked over 15 vehicles, shooting sporadically and indiscriminately. The robbers, numbering around 20, operated with confidence, challenging the police and other security agencies.
Andrea Pendergraft, who was in the country on a visit, was rescued to the hospital along with many other Africans involved in the accident. The robbers made off with several valuables, including cash belonging to the injured and dead victims.
The incident has left many in shock, and efforts to reach the police PRO and the PRO of the Traffic compliance and enforce agency have been unsuccessful. The bodies of the dead have been deposited at the general hospital’s morgue, and those injured are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
