President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public funds, stating that savings from fuel subsidy removal will be directed toward critical infrastructure, social safety nets, and targeted economic reforms.

The President made this known on Monday while declaring open the 2025 National Conference on Public Accounts and Fiscal Governance in Abuja. The event, themed “Fiscal Governance in Nigeria: Charting a New Course for Transparency and Sustainable Development,” gathered key stakeholders from the National Assembly, civil society, government institutions, and the private sector.

Represented by the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, President Tinubu noted that fiscal governance remains the lifeblood of national development. “Without accountability, transparency, and sound management of public resources, no nation can prosper, regardless of its natural wealth,” he declared.

He highlighted the government’s digitisation initiatives in public finance management—including the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), and the Open Treasury Portal—as critical tools for ensuring traceability of funds and promoting citizen engagement.

“These platforms ensure that public funds are traceable, public officers are accountable, and the Nigerian people are empowered with information,” the President said, underscoring his administration’s resolve to deepen public confidence through transparency reforms.

The conference serves as a strategic platform for promoting fiscal discipline, with a key focus on strengthening the oversight role of Public Accounts Committees. Discussions are expected to generate actionable recommendations that will drive sustainable development, fiscal accountability, and improved service delivery across all levels of government.

In his closing remarks, President Tinubu reiterated that his government’s commitment to fiscal reforms is not just administrative but a moral obligation to Nigerians.

The conference, organised by the Federal Ministry of Finance, is regarded as a major milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to entrench transparency and build a more accountable governance framework.
