The Digital Community Fair in Jigawa State has successfully trained over 700 women on information and communication technology (ICT) during a two-day workshop themed “Empowering Communities Through Digital Inclusion.” The program aimed to equip women and youth with digital skills to enhance their economic activities.

The event, held at Vanquete Hall, Government House, Dutse, was chaired by Jigawa State First Lady, Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi, who noted that although the workshop initially targeted 300 participants, interest surged to over 700 attendees, with more than 49,000 women applying for the program. She emphasized that the initiative seeks to promote digital transformation and education, urging small-scale business owners and other groups to leverage digital tools for economic growth.

Hajiya Namadi called on participants to apply the knowledge gained, stressing that it offers a unique opportunity to improve personal and community prosperity.

Hajiya Maryam Lawan Gwadabe, one of the organizers, thanked the Jigawa State government for sponsoring the program, describing it as vital for community development. Meanwhile, Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza T. Abdulwahab, represented by Hajiya Hauwa Babura, encouraged women to embrace digital skills as a pathway to financial independence, highlighting that ICT is a key tool for income generation.

The workshop concluded with an award presentation, where an Excellence Award was presented to Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi on behalf of her husband, recognizing his leadership as the best governor on digital economy in the state.

The initiative underscores Jigawa State’s commitment to digital empowerment, fostering a digitally literate workforce among women and youth to drive economic development.
