Nigeria’s quest for a cleaner and more sustainable energy future will take centre stage as key stakeholders gather for the 2026 Oriental News National Conference to explore strategies for accelerating decarbonisation across the country’s extractive industries.
The conference, themed “Carbon Capture: Accelerating Decarbonization Initiatives in Nigeria’s Extractive Industry Through Broad Regulatory Reforms,” will hold on July 23, 2026, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
The event is expected to attract leading energy companies, government agencies, financial institutions, regulators, and industry experts to discuss innovative approaches to reducing carbon emissions while maintaining operational efficiency and economic growth.
A major highlight of the conference will be the participation of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Abubakar Aliyu, who will lead discussions on Nigeria’s renewable energy strategy and the role of clean energy in achieving the country’s energy transition goals.
Aliyu is expected to showcase the agency’s achievements in expanding renewable energy access through solar mini-grids, standalone solar systems, and rural electrification projects designed to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while improving energy access for millions of Nigerians.
The conference comes at a critical time as Nigeria advances implementation of its Energy Transition Plan (ETP), a roadmap aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 through investments in renewable energy, grid expansion, clean cooking solutions, and sustainable industrial development.
Participants will also examine financing challenges, investment opportunities, operational sustainability, and climate change management under the conference sub-theme: “Addressing Finance Challenges, Investment Strategies, Operational Sustainability and Climate Change Management.”
According to the organisers, discussions will focus on regulatory frameworks, carbon capture technologies, decarbonisation pathways, and strategies for closing investment gaps that continue to slow progress toward achieving national and global climate targets.
The conference will feature keynote presentations, expert panel sessions, policy dialogues, and case-study presentations from organisations that have successfully implemented decarbonisation initiatives. These sessions are expected to provide practical insights into balancing environmental responsibilities with business performance and competitiveness.
