Leading industry stakeholders will converge in Lagos on July 7, 2026, for the SUPERNEWS Conference and 10th Anniversary celebration to explore strategies for deepening collaboration between Nigeria’s oil and gas and insurance sectors through local content development and digital transformation.

The conference, themed “Local Content & Digitisation: Building Synergy Between Oil & Gas and Insurance Sectors for Inclusive Growth,” will be held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event will feature former Minister of Power and Chairman of Geometric Power Limited, Professor Barth Nnaji, as Special Guest of Honour, alongside top regulators, industry executives, policymakers, and other stakeholders.

Also expected at the conference is the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, whose participation underscores the importance of the gathering to ongoing reforms in the insurance sector.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Insurance Plc, Dr. Jeff Duru, will chair the conference, while the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Exchange Plc, Mrs. Idu Okeahialam, will deliver the keynote address.

According to the Publisher of SUPERNEWS Nigeria, Ngozi Onyeakusi, the conference is designed to provide a platform for examining how technological innovation and stronger industry collaboration can enhance compliance with local content requirements and unlock new growth opportunities for both sectors.

A major focus of discussions will be the implementation of Sections 49 and 50 of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, which mandate operators in the oil and gas industry to place insurable risks with Nigerian insurance companies through locally registered insurance brokers.

The Act further requires operators seeking to place risks offshore to obtain approval from NAICOM after demonstrating that local underwriting capacity has been fully exhausted.

To support effective implementation of the law, the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and NAICOM introduced operational guidelines in 2022 aimed at addressing compliance challenges and strengthening local participation in oil and gas insurance business.

Stakeholders at the conference are expected to assess progress made so far, identify remaining obstacles, and propose innovative solutions that will enable Nigerian insurers to play a more significant role in underwriting risks within the energy sector.

The discussions come at a time when the insurance industry is undergoing significant transformation following the enactment of the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025 and the ongoing recapitalisation programme designed to strengthen operators and enhance industry capacity.

Participants will also explore the role of digitalisation in improving efficiency, transparency, risk assessment, and service delivery across both sectors, with a view to promoting sustainable growth and competitiveness.

As Nigeria seeks to maximise local value retention within its strategic industries, the conference is expected to generate actionable recommendations that will strengthen partnerships between the oil and gas and insurance sectors while supporting broader economic development objectives.

The event forms part of SUPERNEWS Nigeria’s continued commitment to fostering dialogue on critical economic issues and advancing policy conversations that contribute to national growth and industry development.
