As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 Edo North Senatorial District election, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Isemevwodan Maria Oisamoje has unveiled a campaign message centred on inclusive representation, development and the empowerment of the people.
Under the slogan, “Edo-North, Do You Know We Can? — Yes, We Can!”, Iseme is seeking to mobilise voters across the six local government areas that make up the senatorial district — Etsako West, Etsako East, Etsako Central, Owan West, Owan East and Akoko-Edo.
Iseme, who is from the Ogute clan in Owan East Local Government Area, says her candidacy represents an opportunity to broaden political participation and address what her campaign describes as longstanding concerns over equitable representation in Edo North.
The NDC candidate is also placing particular emphasis on the economic potential of the district, especially its tourism, natural and mineral resources.
According to her campaign, properly developing these resources could create jobs, expand opportunities for young people and women, and stimulate economic activity across the senatorial district.
Iseme argues that Edo North deserves representation that goes beyond what she describes as “cosmetic representation,” insisting that elected officials should be measured by their ability to attract development and effectively represent the interests of their constituents.
Her campaign message also highlights the importance of power rotation and greater inclusion of the different cultural blocs within the district.
For Iseme, the 2027 election provides the people of Edo North with an opportunity to make a fresh choice about the kind of representation they want at the National Assembly.
She is therefore calling on voters across the six local government areas to support what she describes as a new approach to legislative representation, focused on development, accountability and service.
As the campaign gathers momentum, the NDC candidate is urging the people of Edo North to embrace her message of possibility and collective action.
“Edo-North, do you know we can?” her campaign asks.
The response from her supporters is emphatic: “Yes, we can!”.
