Nigerians are facing the most expensive Sallah celebrations in over 30 years as prices of essential food items such as rams, tomatoes, and rice have skyrocketed.

The country’s highest inflation rate in over 30 years, reaching nearly 40% food inflation, has driven up costs, making it difficult for families to afford traditional Sallah celebrations.

The prices of rams have nearly doubled since last year, with some vendors selling them for as high as N400,000. Tomatoes have also seen a significant price hike, with a basket selling for up to N200,000. Rice prices have also surged, with a bag selling for between N79,000 and N90,000.

The high prices have affected both buyers and sellers, with many scaling back their celebrations and limiting their guest lists. Sellers are also feeling the pinch, with low patronage deflating market morale.

Experts attribute the price hike to food inflation, subsidy removal, and other economic pressures. They urge the government to invest more in farming and provide low-interest loans to farmers to address the issue.

As Sallah is been celebrates all over the world , Nigerians are bracing themselves for a festive period marked by soaring prices and economic hardship
