The Nigerian government has begun diplomatic and legal efforts to recover three presidential aircraft seized in France due to indebtedness. The Office of the National Security Adviser and the Attorney General of the Federation are working to resolve the issue.
According to a statement by the AGF, the debt was incurred by the Ogun State Government in a contractual agreement with a Chinese company, Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited. The company obtained a final award against Ogun State in 2021 and has sought to enforce it against the federal government’s assets, including the presidential aircraft.
The federal government maintains that the aircraft are sovereign assets used solely for sovereign purposes and are therefore immune from attachment. The government is taking legal and diplomatic steps to discharge the orders against the aircraft and resolve the dispute
