The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has declared Somefun Oladapo Olayiwola wanted over allegations of involvement in same-sex activities, an offence prohibited under Nigerian law.

In a statement issued by the police, homosexuality—defined as a sexual relationship between persons of the same sex—remains illegal in Nigeria and is punishable by up to 14 years’ imprisonment under existing statutes.

According to police reports, Olayiwola was first apprehended on January 13, 2025, while residing at No. 49 Ogbor Hill, Abia State, where he was allegedly caught engaging in a same-sex act.

The incident reportedly attracted a group of youths from the community, who attempted to apprehend him on the grounds that the act was against local customs and traditions. However, he managed to escape before being handed over to law enforcement authorities.

Police intelligence later revealed that the suspect relocated to Nasarawa State, where he was said to be living at No. 170 Zamani Abacha Road, Maraba. He was again allegedly caught in the act on July 10, 2025, but reportedly escaped before arrest.

Following further investigations, police said Olayiwola fled to Lagos State, where another attempt was made to apprehend him. During this operation, he was allegedly caught with a partner identified as Akinlabi Olamilekan Adewunmi. While Olayiwola reportedly escaped, Adewunmi was arrested, charged, and prosecuted.

The police stated that repeated efforts to arrest Olayiwola have been unsuccessful, prompting his declaration as a wanted person. The NPF has therefore appealed to members of the public with useful information regarding his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

The police assured the public of their commitment to enforcing the law and maintaining public order across the country.
