The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the sum of ₦1,487,180,249.00 for the renovation and reconstruction of the Hadejia Emir’s Palace, in recognition of its historical, cultural and traditional importance to the people of the state.

The project is aimed at restoring and preserving the palace structure, improving its functionality and safeguarding its status as a symbol of traditional authority, heritage and cultural identity. The reconstruction will also enhance the safety, durability and aesthetic value of the historic edifice.

The approval underscores the state government’s commitment to preserving traditional institutions and protecting cultural heritage for present and future generations.

In a related development, the Council approved the award of a contract for the procurement of ten additional foreign-used Toyota Hilux vehicles for security agencies operating across the state at a total cost of ₦870,100,000.00. The approval followed due process and complied with extant procurement laws.

The vehicles will be deployed to strengthen patrol, surveillance and rapid response operations across the 27 local government areas, with the aim of improving security coverage and response time to emerging threats.

The Council also approved the release of ₦1,221,532,047.81 for the general renovation of Jigawa Hotels Limited, Dutse, a state-owned three-star hotel. The renovation is intended to upgrade the facility to modern hospitality standards, enhance service delivery and reposition the hotel as a preferred destination for local and international visitors.

The project is expected to boost tourism, increase internally generated revenue, create jobs and strengthen the state’s hospitality and tourism value chain.

In another decision, the Council approved the procurement of operational vehicles for the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development at a cost of ₦230,678,750.00. The vehicles will support field operations, monitoring and coordination of livestock development programmes across the state.

The establishment of the ministry, the Council noted, reflects the administration’s commitment to developing the livestock sector as a driver of economic growth, food security, job creation and rural development, in line with the state’s 12-Point Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
