The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has alerted members of the public to the circulation of fraudulent messages, emails, and online communications falsely claiming to originate from the Bank.
According to the CBN, these deceptive messages are designed to mislead the public, spread false information about its leadership, licensing, and policy matters, and trick recipients into clicking malicious links that could compromise personal accounts and sensitive data.
The Bank emphasized that its official website remains www.cbn.gov.ng and urged Nigerians to rely only on verified channels for accurate information. It advised the public to avoid interacting with suspicious links or sharing personal information on unverified platforms, to confirm the authenticity of any CBN-related communication through official sources and recognised media outlets, and to report suspected fraudulent messages, emails, or websites to relevant law enforcement authorities.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s financial system, the CBN said it is working with cybersecurity and security agencies to strengthen digital defenses and curb online fraud targeting the public
