In a notable political shift in Jigawa State, two prominent figures of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a potential realignment ahead of future general elections.

The defectors—Barayan Dutse, Alhaji Ahmed Isah Dutse, a respected PDP stalwart, and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Jigawa State, Justice Tijjani Inuwa Dutse—formally joined the ADC on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the party’s state headquarters in Dutse.

The event attracted a large crowd of party stakeholders and supporters, including ADC officials from the seven Local Government Areas within the Dutse Emirate, as well as key members of the state executive. Representatives of Senator Sabo Mohammed Nakudu and prominent ADC chieftain Hon. Bala Usman Chamo were also in attendance.

During the ceremony, both men were presented with their ADC membership cards, marking their official entry into the party. Their defection is widely seen as a significant boost to the ADC’s growing presence in Jigawa State, particularly within the Dutse Emirate.

Speaking at the event, the ADC Deputy State Chairman criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a party that has lost credibility and the confidence of its members. He cited recent developments in Birnin Kudu, where internal disagreements reportedly led to a wave of defections to the ADC by members seeking fairness and justice.

In his remarks, Alhaji Ahmed Isah Dutse called on the people to support the ADC in the upcoming general elections, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to secure victories from the national level down to local government positions.

“I realized my mistake and corrected it after wide consultations,” he said. “I chose the ADC because of its credibility, inclusiveness, and accessibility.”

He thanked his supporters for standing by him and urged party officials to treat all members fairly to ensure unity and progress. He also encouraged women and youths to obtain their voter cards, emphasizing their importance in shaping the country’s political future.

Additionally, he invited aggrieved politicians from other parties to join the ADC, assuring them of justice and equal opportunity.

Also speaking at the event, the ADC Women Leader, Hajiya Sadiya, commended women and youths for their continued support. She expressed confidence that the ADC would bring meaningful change to Nigeria if elected, pledging to tackle insecurity, poverty, and unemployment.

She further assured that the party would prioritize job creation and address the growing challenges of insecurity affecting the nation.
