The PALDAN Association has commended the administration of Umar Namadi for supporting the association and expanding mass housing projects across the state, while also calling for a reduction in the selling prices of government housing units.
Speaking in Dutse, the spokesperson of the association, Alhaji Hassan Lawan, praised the governor for bringing the association closer to government and recognising its role in the housing and property sector.
Lawan said the association works closely with security agencies to ensure safety in property transactions across the state, noting that members thoroughly screen prospective tenants before allocating rental properties.
According to him, Jigawa State remains one of the most peaceful states in the country, with minimal cases of land and property disputes compared to other parts of the federation where properties are sometimes sold to multiple buyers, leading to conflicts.
He stated that the association had previously received little attention in the state but expressed appreciation to the current administration for supporting its activities, including providing transportation to enable members attend national meetings and official engagements.
Lawan also pledged the association’s political support for Governor Namadi ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We have every reason to appreciate the governor because he has supported and recognised our association. Our members will continue to support his administration,” he said.
The association further applauded the state government for constructing mass housing projects across the 27 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to address housing shortages.
He urged the government to sustain the initiative, saying the projects would further position Jigawa as a modern and developing state.
However, the association appealed to the state government and the Jigawa State Housing Authority to review the prices of housing units currently under construction near Federal University Dutse.
According to Lawan, the prices are beyond the reach of many civil servants and small-scale business owners.
He noted that the cost of a two-bedroom flat, currently priced at ₦32 million, and a three-bedroom flat at ₦37 million, is too high for average residents the housing scheme is intended to benefit.
“The government’s intention is to provide affordable housing for the people, but many workers and low-income earners cannot afford the current prices,” he added
