A concerned indigene of Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Zayyan Abdullahi Kuchi, has called on the Federal and Sokoto State Governments to urgently intervene in the worsening security and humanitarian crisis in the area.

Kuchi, in a statement, said persistent attacks by armed groups, including activities attributed to Lakurawa and other bandit groups, had pushed Kebbe into a severe security and socio-economic crisis.

He said the situation had “gone beyond an ordinary security challenge” and now threatened the lives, livelihoods and future of thousands of residents.

The appeal followed the reported attack on Ungushi village last Sunday by suspected Lakurawa bandits, which left two people dead and several others injured. Three suspected bandits were reportedly neutralised by vigilantes who repelled the attack.

On Tuesday, the Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Area, Hon. Musa Garba Kuchi, donated N500,000 towards emergency surgery for one of the victims receiving treatment at the state-owned Orthopaedic Hospital in Wamakko.

According to a statement by the Secretary of the local government, Alhaji Shamsudeen Umar Mai’akwai, the donation was made as part of efforts to support victims of the attack.

Kuchi said repeated attacks, killings, abductions and displacement had disrupted farming and other economic activities across Kebbe, Girkau, Ungushi, Kuchi, Margai, Kebbe East and Kebbe West.

He commended the local government council for providing food and cash assistance to some displaced residents but stressed that emergency support alone could not solve the crisis.

He urged authorities to increase security deployments, strengthen intelligence gathering and early-warning systems, secure farming routes, provide humanitarian assistance and facilitate the safe return of displaced residents.

Kuchi also called for agricultural support, vocational training and youth employment programmes to address the economic vulnerabilities worsening insecurity.

He said government must sustain recent efforts to adjust the security architecture around Kebbe following attacks, including the reported August 2026 incursion into Kebbe town.

“The people of Kebbe should not be left to face the crisis alone and deserve to live, farm, work and educate their children without fear,” he said.
