Empowering Women for National Progress: NAWOJ South West Zonal Hosts Summit in Lagos

The NAWOJ South West Zonal Summit was held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Ladi Lawal Press Center, 9 Iyalla street, Lagos.

The event brought together delegates from South West states, representatives from the national body, and NAWOJ Lagos members to discuss the theme “Empowering Women: Driving Good Governance and Economic Growth”.

The conference highlighted the need for greater female representation in governance and economic decision-making as a cornerstone for national progress.

Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, represented by Alhaji Olanrewaju Bakare, underscored the historical significance of women in leadership roles within Nigerian society, urging modern governance structures to draw from this heritage.

Victoria Ibanga, Guest Speaker, stressed the importance of breaking barriers that hinder women from attaining leadership positions, calling for deliberate efforts to address these disparities. The summit provided an exciting opportunity for networking, relaxation, and empowerment. Delegates discussed ways to promote gender-inclusive policies and practices and how to support women in leadership positions.

Similarly, Mrs. Adeola Adekunle, National Vice President of NAWOJ Southwest B ZONE , painted a vivid picture: ‘Imagine a world where women’s ideas and talents are truly valued.’ She emphasized that education, healthcare, and economic opportunities can transform women’s lives and uplift their families and communities.

AMrs. Bola Okolie, CEO of BONIX Drinks, also echoed this sentiment, highlighting women journalists’ crucial role in shaping public opinion and driving social change. She acknowledged the challenges they face, including barriers to equality and gender-based violence.
Both leaders called on women to work together, unlock their potential, and champion women’s empowerment. By standing up for themselves, women can contribute to a larger movement towards equality, good governance, and economic growths
