Retirees of the Nigerian Ports Authority have intensified pressure on authorities over the non-payment of pension benefits that have accumulated for more than 16 years. Acting under the umbrella of the Nigerian Ports Authority Pensioners Welfare Association, the pensioners say their prolonged wait for entitlements has pushed many members into severe financial distress.

The group warned that it will embark on a nationwide protest if urgent steps are not taken to address their grievances. According to the association, a seven-day ultimatum has been issued, after which demonstrations will commence if there is no clear commitment from the government or relevant agencies.

The pensioners described the situation as unjust, stressing that many retirees who dedicated decades of service to the country are now struggling to meet basic needs. They also noted that some members have passed away without receiving their full benefits, further deepening concerns among those still waiting.

They called on the federal government and relevant stakeholders to intervene swiftly, settle all outstanding payments, and restore confidence in the pension system to prevent further escalation.
