The Federal Road Safety Corps, RS1.4 Jigawa Sector Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the African Road Safety Charter and promoting safer roads across the state and the West African sub-region.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Umar Masaud, made this known during the commemoration of the 2026 West African Road Safety Organisation (WARSO) Day.

As part of the event, the WARSO/AARSLA Secretariat was commissioned by the Chairman of the FRSC, represented by the Federal Character Commissioner representing Plateau State, alongside key road safety stakeholders across Africa, the SSATP, and the World Bank.

According to the Sector Commander, the establishment of the Secretariat is aimed at strengthening regional collaboration in transport governance and improving road safety across the African continent.

The FRSC Jigawa Sector Command joined other countries in the West African sub-region to commemorate the 2026 WARSO Day, which focuses on promoting safe road use and responsible driving culture among road users.

He noted that this yearโ€™s campaign comes at a critical time when road safety stakeholders across Africa are intensifying efforts to reduce road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities through strategic partnerships, public enlightenment campaigns, enforcement, and improved road-use behaviour.

Corps Commander Umar Masaud stated that the Jigawa Command remains committed to the philosophy and objectives of WARSO by enhancing regional cooperation, professionalism, and safe mobility for all road users.

He added that the FRSC continues to play a leading role in advancing road safety initiatives not only in Nigeria but across the Sahel region through collaboration with relevant agencies and stakeholders.

As part of activities marking the 2026 WARSO Day celebration, the Dutse Command engaged drivers, transport unions, fleet operators, community leaders, and other stakeholders on the importance of obeying traffic regulations and promoting road discipline.

The Command emphasized the need for collective efforts in tackling dangerous driving habits such as overspeeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking, and the use of mobile phones while driving.

The Sector Commander also aligned the Commandโ€™s activities with the Corps Marshalโ€™s 2026 strategic direction, which focuses on renewed commitment, professionalism, operational efficiency, discipline, public confidence, and improved service delivery.

He stressed that road traffic crashes remain preventable when motorists and other road users embrace patience, discipline, tolerance, and strict compliance with traffic rules.

The FRSC therefore urged all road users to ensure vehicle roadworthiness before embarking on journeys and to cooperate fully with traffic and emergency response agencies.

Corps Commander Umar Masaud appreciated the support of the Jigawa State Government, security agencies, transport unions, media organizations, Special Marshals, and members of the public for their contributions toward reducing road traffic crashes in the state during the first quarter of 2026.

He expressed optimism that with continued collaboration and public cooperation, the state could achieve zero fatalities from road traffic crashes..
