Experts in the insurance and pension industries are set to examine ways of transitioning informal sector workers from “daily survival” to a life of “structured retirement” at the 2026 Inspenonline Retirement Summit scheduled for tomorrow in Lagos.
The third edition of the summit will hold on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) House, Plot A2, Hakeem Balogun Street, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
According to the promoter of the summit and Publisher of Inspenonline, Chuks Udo Okonta, the event is designed to address a major gap in Nigeria’s financial ecosystem — the vulnerability of workers in the informal sector.
Okonta noted that with more than 90 per cent of Nigeria’s workforce operating outside formal employment structures, the summit aims to provide practical solutions that will enable informal workers to retire with dignity and financial security.
He explained that discussions at the summit would focus on how the Personal Pension Plan (PPP) and life insurance products can be adapted to suit the irregular income patterns of artisans, traders, transport workers, and other self-employed Nigerians.
The summit will be chaired by the Chairman of STI Leasing Limited, Tom Ogboi.
Expected as Special Guests of Honour are the Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Omosehin, and the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran.
The keynote address will be delivered by the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), Dr. Muda Yusuf, who is expected to provide economic insights into integrating informal sector workers into Nigeria’s financial safety net.
Other industry stakeholders expected at the summit include the Director-General of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), Mrs. Bola Odukale; Chief Executive Officer of the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp), Anthonia Ifeanyi-Okoro; President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Mrs. Ekeoma Ezeibe; and the National President of the Association of Registered Insurance Agents (ARIA), Mayowa Olatubosun.
A panel session has also been scheduled to examine practical strategies for boosting pension and insurance adoption among informal sector workers.
Panelists include the National President of the Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON), Dr. Femi Egbesola; Managing Director of Coronation Life Assurance Limited, Adebowale Adesona; Managing Director of Leadway Pensure Limited, Olusakin Labeodan; and Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Lagos State Chapter, Comrade Funmi Sessi
