The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has commenced the disbursement of N661,162,525.84 as terminal and death benefits to 272 retirees and families of deceased civil servants across the state.
The Jigawa State Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri, disclosed this during the disbursement ceremony held at the Pension House in Dutse.
Dagaceri said the payments cover gratuities, death benefits, and pension balances for retired workers as well as civil servants who died while in active service.
He explained that the beneficiaries include staff of the state civil service, local government councils, and local education authorities who either voluntarily retired, attained retirement age, or died in service.
According to him, N519,836,677.71 will be paid to 220 retired workers, while N123,241,273.10 will be disbursed to 37 families of civil servants who died in active service.
He added that another N18,078,575.03 would be paid to the families of 15 retirees who died after retirement but before completing the mandatory five-year pension period.
The Head of Service noted that the Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme remains up-to-date in the payment of retirees’ entitlements and benefits to families of deceased workers.
He also stated that the scheme has maintained regular monthly pension payments to retired civil servants across the state.
According to Dagaceri, the consistent payment of entitlements reflects the state government’s commitment to the welfare and financial security of workers after retirement.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Pension Scheme, Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, revealed that the board had disbursed a total of N3.6 billion to 1,428 retirees and beneficiaries between January 2026 and now.
He said N2,876,036,977.22 was paid to 1,161 retired workers, while N639,800,219.60 was disbursed to families of civil servants who died in active service.
Dr. Aminu commended Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi for his support and reforms aimed at strengthening the pension scheme.
He said the governor had injected billions of naira into the scheme as intervention funds, significantly improving its sustainability and boosting confidence among retiring civil servants.
According to him, the intervention has enhanced the effectiveness of the pension scheme and ensured timely payment of benefits.
The disbursement ceremony formed part of the government’s ongoing efforts to honour the service and dedication of civil servants by ensuring they enjoy a dignified and stable life after retirement.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the timely payment of their entitlements, noting that the funds would help them meet financial obligations and improve their standard of living in retirement
