The media office of former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has faulted claims allegedly made by Governor Dapo Abiodun concerning Daniel’s political emergence in 2003 and 2023.

Reacting to comments reportedly made during a private meeting in Iperu, the OGD Media Office described the claims as inaccurate and misleading, insisting that Daniel’s electoral victories were achieved through personal political strength and widespread grassroots support.

The statement maintained that Daniel won the 2003 governorship primary convincingly, defeating other aspirants in a democratic contest within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to the office, historical records and political events surrounding the election do not support claims that Abiodun surrendered any political structure to aid Daniel’s emergence at the time.

The media office also argued that Daniel’s victory in the 2023 Ogun East senatorial election was based on his political legacy and direct engagement with voters across the district.

It noted that the former governor personally campaigned across the nine local government areas and 103 wards in Ogun East during the election period.

The statement further alleged that despite political differences over the years, Daniel continued to maintain significant grassroots support across Ogun State.

The OGD Media Office urged political leaders to focus on governance and avoid statements capable of generating unnecessary political tension or distorting historical events
