The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commended Dangote Cement Transport for recording significant improvements in road safety through the implementation of innovative transport safety policies and operational reforms.
The Corps described Dangote Cement as a model for transport management and road safety practices in Nigeria and across Africa, citing a sharp reduction in crashes involving the company’s articulated trucks.
Speaking during a visit by officials of Dangote Cement Plc to the FRSC Headquarters in Abuja, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, praised the company for setting new standards in transport safety management and urged it to sustain initiatives that are transforming Nigeria’s transport sector.
According to comparative data released by the FRSC, crashes involving Dangote Cement trucks dropped by 56 per cent between 2025 and 2026. The figures also showed a 36 per cent reduction in fatalities and a 52 per cent decline in injuries within the same period.
The Corps Marshal attributed the improvement to the successful implementation of Dangote Cement’s Gap Analysis framework and robust internal transport safety policies, which he described as worthy of adoption by logistics operators across Africa.
“These achievements demonstrate that when major industry players prioritise safety, the benefits extend beyond their operations to the nation and the continent at large,” he said.
Earlier, the Head of Transport at Dangote Cement Plc, Murilo Silva, said the company had continued to invest in advanced transport management systems, including automated inspection technologies and artificial intelligence-driven solutions aimed at improving operational efficiency and road safety.
Silva noted that the company’s long-standing collaboration with the FRSC in developing and implementing transport policies was now producing measurable results. He added that Dangote Cement remains committed to driver recertification and continuous retraining as part of its broader safety strategy.
Also speaking, the Group Chief, HSSE and Sustainability Officer for Dangote Industries Limited, Dr. James Adenuga, said the achievements were driven by strong leadership commitment and management support for innovation.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continuous improvement through sustained reforms, enhanced safety systems, and innovation-led initiatives designed to strengthen efficiency, deepen compliance with global best practices, and deliver long-term value to stakeholders and host communities.
The Lead Fleet Safety, Nigeria, at Dangote Cement Plc, Ozovehe Abraham, disclosed that the company has deployed advanced technologies to monitor and evaluate driver behaviour in real time.
According to him, the systems improve compliance with safety standards, identify risky driving patterns early, and support continuous improvement in driver performance.
Abraham added that the company is also strengthening its speed limit policy as part of broader operational safety measures aimed at further reducing road crashes and promoting safer haulage operations.
