The Lagos State Government has launched its second palliative scheme, “Ounje Eko”, to support 500,000 households, including journalists, amid economic challenges. The scheme, executed by the Ministry of Agriculture, aims to alleviate suffering and provide relief to residents.
Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Representative of the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Dikirat Oshodi, said the government is committed to supporting Lagosians. “Our Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is executing this project through the Ministry of Agriculture, and we are up to the task.”
The palliatives include food packs, which will be distributed to 500,000 households across the state. Journalists at the NUJ Secretariat received their packs, with the government promising to extend the program to more households if needed.
NUJ Chairman, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, commended the government’s gesture, saying, “We appreciate the Lagos State Government for including journalists in this scheme. We urge them to do more to support those in need.”
The government has also pledged to continue supporting residents through other avenues, such as health and transportation, to cushion the effects of economic hardship. The monitoring committee, led by Reverend (Dr) Stephen Oyinlola, ensures that the palliatives reach the intended beneficiaries.
